Big Bad Jeff

I wrote this song for Jeff Rogers, who was the Scoutmaster for my week at Big Horn in 2005. (See pictures.)

Big Bad Jeff To the tune of "Big Bad John" by Jimmy Dean

(Mm-mm, mm-mm)

Let me tell you 'bout a man born long ago
He stood five foot six with hair as white as snow
When he took a step, he shook the ground
And everybody knew you didn't mess around
With Big Jeff

(Big Jeff, big Jeff)
Big bad Jeff

He spent some time in the middle of Wall Street
Wheeling and dealing five days of the week
But the days and nights got mighty long
So he left to seek work at the Pentagon

(Mm-mm, mm-mm)

He worked as a spook for the CIA
Serving Uncle Sam every night and day
It wasn't your typical nine to five
But don't ask for details, 'cause they're classified

(Big Jeff, big Jeff)
Big bad Jeff

Jeff got kind of tired of that busy life
So he moved to Colorado just to please his wife
Without much to do he was feeling forlorn
So he signed up for a little something called Big Horn

(Mm-mm, mm-mm)

Well Jeff took to the job like a fish to water
And he did a good job like an ASM oughter
His abilities grew faster and faster
And no one was surprised when we got a Scoutmaster
Named Jeff

(Big Jeff, big Jeff)
Big bad Jeff

Jeff's reputation's known far and wide
It seems like everyone's on Jeff's good side
He's not in it for the fame and glory
And you can't deny, the man tells a good story

(Mm-mm, mm-mm)

He was able to tame the unruly staff
But he always found a way to make time for a laugh
With a minimum of fuss and tears
It was the best Big Horn that we've had in years
'Cause of Jeff

(Big Jeff, big Jeff)
Big bad Jeff

Now other Scoutmasters will come along
And they'll do the skits and they'll sing the songs
But there's a sense of loss among the staff
They know we'll never have another...
Quite like... old Jeff

(Big Jeff, big Jeff)
Big bad Jeff
